THE NAME
The story
At Lost Horse Coffee, every cup is Intentionally Made—crafted with care, purpose, and a passion for quality. Our coffee is always specialty-grade and ethically sourced, ensuring each brew supports sustainable practices and delivers exceptional flavor. From the first pour to the last sip, our mission is to provide a coffee experience that’s both meaningful and memorable.
Lost Horse Coffee began with a lifelong appreciation for coffee, service, and community. Travis (the owner) and his wife, Tanya, decided it was time to exit the corporate world and create something from passion- Lost Horse Coffee. Travis immersed himself in speciality coffee—taking classes, working in the industry, and learning everything he could to provide something unique.
In 2024, we built out our coffee trailer and carefully selected every brand and product we offer today. Tanya utilized her strengths, creating our branding and social media presence. Even our son helps out on the trailer, making this a true family business.
The name “Lost Horse” was inspired by the first trail we ever hiked together, in Joshua Tree National Park 17 years ago, as well as the wisdom in the Chinese adage of the Lost Horse-a reminder that fortune can hide within seemingly unfortunate scenarios.
~
Long ago, a poor farmer had a magnificent horse, that was admired by many. One day, the horse went missing. All of the neighbors and friends offered condolences to the farmer, with comments of misfortune. The farmer only replied with "maybe."
Soon, the horse returned with a group of wild stallions. Now, neighbors and friends expressed their excitement and commented on good fortune. Again, the farmer replied with "maybe."
While training the stallions, the farmer's son broke his leg. The farmer and his son were again consoled with ideas of misfortune, and again, the farmer only thought, "maybe."
Soon, all able-bodied men were drafted into the military, for a war resulting in 90% of the men dying. Due to the son's injury, his life was spared.
